Kuwait pharmacist exam and licence route
Facts last verified 5 October 2026.
We did not find an official pharmacist format, pass mark or syllabus. ProMCQ’s 70-question mocks borrow the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) pharmacist weights. Use them to practise across topics. They may not match your Kuwait paper’s length or language.
Is this the right paper for you?
Kuwait Ministry of Health (MOH) has a separate pharmacy licence office (Prometric MOHKW). That programme page does not confirm a Prometric route for pharmacists.
- Ask the pharmacy licence office which paper, booking route and language apply to you.

What the paper covers
We did not find published section weights for the Kuwait MOH paper for pharmacists. ProMCQ's mock papers use the published SCFHS blueprint for pharmacists as practice targets. These are not Kuwait MOH's own weights. Each mock includes national-topic content, so its final question shares can differ slightly from these targets.
- Basic Biomedical Sciences (10%): ProMCQ mock share: basic biomedical sciences 10%. Revise physiology, pathology, biochemistry and microbiology behind drug action.
- Pharmaceutical Sciences (35%): ProMCQ mock share: pharmaceutical sciences 35%. Revise dosage forms, compounding, stability, pharmacokinetics, doses, concentrations and dilutions.
- Social/Behavioral/Administrative Sciences (20%): ProMCQ mock share: social, behavioural and administrative sciences 20%. Revise law, ethics, medicine safety and dispensing.
- Clinical Sciences (35%): ProMCQ mock share: clinical sciences 35%. Practise drug choice, dosing, monitoring, interactions, pregnancy, lactation and over-the-counter advice.
Sample questions
These are eight original ProMCQ practice questions with explanations. We did not find an official format for your paper. Select an answer to see the explanation.
A 46-year-old man with suspected cyanide poisoning after a warehouse fire received hydroxocobalamin 5 g IV over 15 minutes. His urine is now dark red. His creatinine is rising and his metabolic acidosis is worsening, so the nephrology team plans to start hemodialysis this afternoon. Which problem should the team anticipate when starting hemodialysis?
- Myoglobin blocking the dialyzer
- Oxalate crystals clotting the circuit
- Methemoglobin release into circuit
- False blood-leak alarm shutdown
Answer
D. Hydroxocobalamin's red colour interferes with colorimetric sensing; hemodialysis machines may falsely detect a blood leak and shut down. This should be anticipated before dialysing anyone who has received hydroxocobalamin.
A patient with a CYP2C19 poor-metabolizer phenotype develops stent thrombosis while taking clopidogrel after percutaneous coronary intervention. Which change in antiplatelet therapy is most appropriate?
- Continue standard-dose clopidogrel
- Reduce the clopidogrel dose
- Continue clopidogrel after retesting
- Replace clopidogrel with ticagrelor
Answer
D. CYP2C19 poor metabolizers generate less of clopidogrel's active thiol metabolite. After PCI with stent thrombosis, therapy should be changed to ticagrelor or prasugrel, which do not require CYP2C19 activation.
A patient on long-term warfarin has correctly used a home coagulometer for several months. Which follow-up best verifies that the monitor remains accurate?
- Periodically pair capillary and venous INRs
- Measure periodic venous INRs separately
- Repeat two capillary INRs periodically
- Check one venous INR during training
Answer
A. A home coagulometer can drift from laboratory venous INR over time because of device wear, calibration, or technique drift. Periodic same-visit capillary and venous INR measurements allow direct correlation of the two methods.
An adult develops fever, severe weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, impaired liver function, and external bleeding after handling infected bushmeat. Which syndrome best characterizes this illness?
- Acute viral gastroenteritis
- Primary viral encephalitic syndrome
- Systemic viral hemorrhagic fever
- Isolated viral pharyngitis
Answer
C. Ebola virus disease is a systemic viral hemorrhagic fever. Fever and profound weakness may be followed by gastrointestinal symptoms, kidney or liver dysfunction, and internal or external bleeding.
A 60-year-old woman with venous thromboembolism is prescribed a continuous unfractionated heparin infusion overnight. During a shortage, a technician suggests preparing the infusion bag from heparin lock-flush syringes held in ward stock, noting that their label lists heparin sodium as the active ingredient. Which decision should the pharmacist make about this proposed product?
- Use lock-flush after unit conversion
- Use lock-flush if well mixed
- Use lock-flush for first hours
- Reject lock-flush for infusion
Answer
D. Heparin lock-flush presentations are intended exclusively for catheter flushing. Although they contain heparin, they are not selected to prepare a therapeutic continuous infusion.
A 58-year-old man with short bowel syndrome is started on a three-in-one total nutrient admixture of dextrose, amino acids and lipid emulsion through a central venous catheter. The ward nurse asks the pharmacist which in-line filter to fit to the administration set before the first bag is hung. Which filter arrangement is most appropriate?
- 0.22 micron filter near catheter hub
- 1.2 micron filter at bag spike
- 1.2 micron filter near catheter hub
- No in-line filter
Answer
C. Lipid-containing admixtures need the larger 1.2 micron filter. For a TNA it sits as close to the catheter hub as possible, because the opaque admixture can conceal a calcium–phosphorus or other incompatibility precipitate.
A 42-year-old man wants nicotine gum for a quit attempt. He smokes his first cigarette within thirty minutes of waking and has no difficulty chewing. He asks which gum strength to purchase. The pharmacist considers how soon he smokes after waking when selecting treatment. Which initial nicotine-gum strength should be recommended?
- 2 mg per piece
- 0.5 mg per piece
- 1 mg per piece
- 4 mg per piece
Answer
D. Select nicotine gum 4 mg when the first cigarette is smoked within thirty minutes of waking. Time to the first cigarette determines the gum strength.
A drug information pharmacist searches a bibliographic database for trials of a newly marketed oral anticoagulant in atrial fibrillation. The strategy relies only on the database's controlled-vocabulary subject heading for the drug. Several recently published trials already known to be relevant are missing from the results. How should the search strategy be revised?
- Combine headings with free-text synonyms
- Replace headings with free-text terms
- Add all PICO elements with AND
- Add a comparator heading with AND
Answer
A. An effective strategy combines controlled vocabulary with free-text synonyms. Relying on the subject heading alone misses relevant records, such as recent publications, while abandoning headings loses precision. Adding more ANDed elements only narrows retrieval further.
Timed practice papers
10 timed mock papers of 70 questions each, built to the weights above. No question repeats across papers.
How to prepare
- ProMCQ's Kuwait law notes cover drug and practice rules in English. Ask MOH which language each exam part uses.
- Practise calculations by hand. Ask MOH how you sit the paper and which aids you may use.
- Use mocks to check your knowledge across topics. Confirm the Kuwait sitting time before using mocks to plan your pace.
- Revise interactions, renal dosing and pregnancy safety. These span clinical and pharmaceutical sciences.
