MOH nursing exam: title and study topics

Facts last verified 5 October 2026.

Registered Nurse and Assistant Nurse have different qualification rules. Check your degree or diploma before choosing the paper.

Is this the right paper for you?

Use this practice for Registered Nurse. Diploma nurses follow the Assistant Nurse route.

  • Registered Nurse needs a nursing bachelor’s from at least 3 years of full-time study. Practice-gap rules apply.
  • Assistant Nurse needs a nursing diploma of at least 18 months. You work under a registered nurse. Neither title needs minimum work experience.
  • Distance and correspondence nursing awards do not count. Read diploma and bridging routes.
  • On 1 April 2026, MOHAP removed its 6-month experience rule for registered and assistant nurses trained in the UAE or abroad.
  • NCLEX or a listed-country licence can exempt you. Country, recent practice and English rules apply.

What the paper covers

We did not find published section weights for the MOHAP paper for nurses. ProMCQ's mock papers use the published Qatar DHP blueprint for nurses as practice targets. These are not MOHAP's own weights. Each mock includes national-topic content, so its final question shares can differ slightly from these targets.

  • Nursing Fundamentals (20%): Give medicines safely, prevent infection and check vital signs. Practise moving patients and working out doses.
  • Adult Nursing (40.7%): Spot an adult getting worse. Choose the first step in an emergency and care for patients after surgery.
  • Maternal-Child Nursing (29.3%): Care for mothers before and after birth, newborns and sick children. Work out fluids and doses from weight.
  • Unit Management and Leadership (10%): Choose which patient to see first. Assign tasks, keep records and report incidents.

Sample questions

These are eight original ProMCQ practice questions with explanations. We did not find an official format for your paper. Select an answer to see the explanation.

  1. When should ordered dexamethasone accompany empiric antibiotics for suspected bacterial meningitis?

    1. Two hours after first antibiotic dose
    2. After inflammatory complications become evident
    3. Before or with first antibiotic dose
    4. After lumbar puncture results return
    Answer

    C. When prescribed for suspected bacterial meningitis, dexamethasone should be given before or with the first antibiotic dose. Its benefit is greatest before the inflammatory response caused by bacterial lysis.

  2. A client’s temperature diary shows fever peaks each day, with normal temperatures between peaks on the same day. Which of the following should the nurse include when teaching about intermittent fever?

    1. “This pattern is remittent fever.”
    2. “This pattern is intermittent fever.”
    3. “This pattern is sustained fever.”
    4. “This pattern is relapsing fever.”
    Answer

    B. Daily fever peaks with a return to normal between peaks define an intermittent fever pattern.

  3. Nurse Aisha prepares a BCG dose for a 3-day-old girl before hospital discharge. The mother asks where on her baby's body the injection will be given. Where should Nurse Aisha give the injection?

    1. Anterolateral thigh
    2. Upper outer triceps area
    3. Anterior forearm
    4. Outer upper arm, deltoid area
    Answer

    D. BCG is given by intradermal injection in the outer upper aspect/lateral upper arm in the deltoid area, conventionally the left arm. The standardized site supports correct technique and later assessment of the scar.

  4. A 3-day-old boy is awaiting an ordered exchange transfusion for severe hyperbilirubinemia. His mother requests a feeding break during preparation. Which intervention should the nurse maintain to directly enhance bilirubin elimination during preparation?

    1. Continue prescribed intensive phototherapy
    2. Give prescribed intravenous hydration
    3. Perform ordered blood-product verification
    4. Obtain scheduled glucose measurements
    Answer

    A. Intensive phototherapy must continue during exchange preparation. Feeding arrangements must preserve light treatment in this emergency, using prescribed intravenous hydration and enteral feeding that maintains intensive phototherapy.

  5. A 29-year-old man on an inpatient unit remains severely agitated and unsafe after verbal de-escalation fails. The prescriber orders IM haloperidol 5 mg, lorazepam 2 mg, and diphenhydramine 50 mg. Which intended benefit of the diphenhydramine should the nurse recognize?

    1. Prevent oxygen desaturation
    2. Reduce dystonia risk
    3. Prevent hypotension
    4. Limit QT prolongation
    Answer

    B. In the B-52 regimen (haloperidol 5 mg + lorazepam 2 mg + diphenhydramine 50 mg IM), diphenhydramine may reduce dystonia caused by haloperidol, at the cost of added anticholinergic and sedative burden.

  6. Which policy best addresses mandatory overtime?

    1. Require during routine staffing shortfalls
    2. Schedule after consecutive extended shifts
    3. Discourage except during declared emergencies
    4. Prefer before workload safety escalation
    Answer

    C. Mandatory overtime is discouraged outside a declared emergency because extended work increases fatigue-related patient-safety risk.

  7. A 63-year-old woman with previous shingles seeks recombinant zoster vaccination at a U.S. clinic. She received live zoster vaccine more than 2 months ago. The clinic uses the 2025 CDC adult immunization schedule. Which recombinant zoster schedule should the nurse select for this patient?

    1. One dose every year
    2. One dose at 27–36 weeks
    3. Two doses 2–6 months apart
    4. Two doses 1 year apart
    Answer

    C. She needs two recombinant zoster vaccine doses 2–6 months apart. Previous shingles and live zoster vaccination do not replace either dose. More than 2 months have elapsed since her live vaccine, so she has met the minimum interval before starting recombinant vaccination.

  8. An older adult with recent falls also misses medicines, reports low mood, and has limited caregiver support. Which assessment approach best supports a coordinated care plan?

    1. Complete a focused physical health assessment.
    2. Complete a comprehensive geriatric assessment.
    3. Complete a Katz basic self-care assessment.
    4. Complete a Lawton community-living assessment.
    Answer

    B. The client has concerns spanning physical safety, medication management, mood, and social support. Comprehensive geriatric assessment evaluates these interacting domains and supports a coordinated care plan.
