Prometric exam tutorial: the test screen, timer and tools before exam day

By the ProMCQ Editorial Team

Open your exam vendor’s free demo to learn the screen. Prometric has a tutorial; DOH and OMSB use Pearson VUE’s demo.

Facts last verified 5 October 2026. Updated 6 October 2026.

Try the screen before exam day

The demos teach buttons. They do not establish your board’s rules on navigation, calculators, breaks or test length.

DHA, SCFHS and MOHAP programme pages link to the Prometric tutorial. Pearson’s demo has no clinical content. Its tools may not all appear on OMSB papers.

Practise moving and reviewing

  • Answer an item, mark it for review and find it again in the demo.
  • Find incomplete and unseen questions in Pearson’s Navigator.
  • Try hiding the Pearson timer. The time keeps running.
  • Treat “Finish Test” as final. The Prometric demo does not show what follows that button.

Prometric’s TCNet guide says navigation depends on the sponsor. It describes a different system. We did not find an official Gulf-paper setting for those buttons. Check the tutorial on your exam computer.

If time ends or the computer fails

The SNLE guide says the test ends when all blocks finish or total time expires. Tell staff immediately if the computer fails. The guide says the software should restart where it stopped.

We did not find official Gulf-paper rules for auto-saving or unanswered questions. Leave time to finish. At Prometric centres, sign out for breaks and expect security checks when you return.

SCFHS’s remote practice exams need a camera, microphone, internet connection and eligibility number. The licensing exams are not on that remote list. Use your paper’s study plan for clinical preparation.

Frequently asked questions

Can you go back to earlier questions in the Prometric exam?

The Prometric demo has Back and Section Review. That does not confirm the settings on your paper. Check the exam-computer tutorial before answering.

Is there a calculator in the Prometric exam?

DOH confirms an onscreen standard calculator. The Prometric boards’ documents do not confirm one. Prepare to calculate by hand and check your programme instructions.

Does the exam clock stop during a break?

SCFHS has a planned break between blocks; unplanned breaks use exam time. DOH breaks also use exam time. Other Prometric programmes follow their board’s rules.
